Ask for the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord by Priscilla Van Sutphin

Do you suffer from intimidation or the fear of man ?  The word of God says, "The fear of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it, and they are saved !"    So what is the fear of the Lord ?  The church in this age has said we are not to be afraid of God, but be filled with "reverent awesome fear". And  we know that when we come before Him, we can come boldly it says to His throne of GRACE !

Psalms 111:10 NKJV says
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all
those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever
So fearing the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;  If you love Him, you'll obey Him.

Lev 19:14  KJV  Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling block before the blind, but shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD. This warns against placing yourselves above others in your own mind, and warns to be compassionateso these are also part of being filled with the fear of the Lord.

Ex 18:21  KJV      Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
If you have the fear of the Lord you will HATE covetousness of others, you will follow the Truth, and be a leader among men/women.
Lev 19:32 KJV    Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD.
We are commanded to fear the Lord !

Lev 25:17 KJV Ye shall not therefore oppress one another; but thou shalt fear thy God: for I am the LORD your God.
Lev 25:36 Take thou no usury of him, or increase: but fear thy God; that thy brother may live with thee.
Lev 25:43   KJV   Thou shalt not rule over him with rigour; but shalt fear thy God.

These all again show we are not to be ensnared by pride and try to rule over others out of our own ambition, and are to be compassionate towards others who are believers.  And indirectly shown God is the avenger we are to depend on Him and obey Him if we have proper fear of the Lord.

Ex 23:27 KJV      I will send My fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee.
If we obey Him in proper fear He will make our enemies even to be friends with us  He will avenge us; no need to do it ourselves.

Deut 4:10 KJV   Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.
Remember the time the people wanted to hear God too like Moses, and they were asked to consecrate themselves for three days, not even to sleep with their spouses, then they would all come before the Lord together and when God spoke it was too much for them...they ran in fear ?  If you don't have INTIMACY with the Mighty God...it will make
you RUN from Him in fear, instead of towards Him when He appears or speaks.

I think AWESOME is a powerful word and that what they heard and saw  were too awesome for them to behold because they were not accustomed to the voice of the Lord, because they had no intimacy with Him. They just had selfish ambition, and jealousy, wanting to be like Moses. But they were not fasting 40 days back to back for each other  They did not have to speak to pharaoh directly like He did.  The Lord once told me in a prophecy that the day is coming when the heavens will part, and we will hear the sounds of horses hooves, and angel's trumpets, but for those who don't know Him, the sound will be TERRIBLE !

Deut 6:2 KJV   That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.

Deut 13:4 KJV   Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.

Deut 28:58 KJV  If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD;
So according to these scriptures, again is the theme of obedience so that things go well with us, that we would live a long life, being filled with the fear of the Lord.
1 Chron 28:20 KJV   And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
Judg 6:10  KJV  And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose  land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.
So does the Lord get upset when we fear others, or satan more than HIM ?  Yes, because He knows this means we do not trust HIM more than what they can do to us.

"Some trust in chariots, some trust in horses, but we will trust in the name of the Lord."  So it is necessary to trust in the Lord. If we are to have proper fear we need to understand Him; How loving and how just and mighty He is.  How much He loves those who love Him. We need to understand His ways. If we do, we will have proper balance, for we are not to be manipulators ordering God around, nor are we to lack trust in His ability to care for us, whatever it takes.

1 Samuel 11:7 NKJV
So he took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the territory of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, "Whoever does not go out with Saul and Samuel to battle, so it shall be done to his oxen." And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.
Now to me this looks like fear, real fear, not just a wishy washy,. running away fear, but fear for your life.

1 Sam 12:24-25  Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you. But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.
Again I see fear of the wrath of the Lord and His holy presence consuming us.

2 Kings 17:28, 34-37, 39  KJV
Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.  Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear  not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel; With whom the LORD had made a covenant, and charged them saying,  Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves  to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:   But the LORD, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm,  him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.  And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods.  v.39 But the LORD your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.

Our God is an all consuming fire.  The priest could not stand in His presence. If he
came into the Holy of Holies with sin he was killed.  The priests even had a rope tied to their feet for this purpose, such that if he was killed by the Lord they could drag his body out.  Our God is returning not as the humble servant but the mighty LION OF JUDAH.  He is awesome and He has ALL POWER and authority in heaven, on earth and below the earth.  If we don't press into Him for the healing we know we need in His presence, will we be killed like Ananias and Sapphira ?  In 1989 I spoke with a pastor from New Zealand whose body had prayed for the glory for a year and when it came 9 people fell dead.  You can bet that after that there was a fear of the Lord in that church!   There is a
truth about getting too familiar with God, so that we don't reverance Him as we should.
The Israelites thought they knew Him when Moses went out with them...but they found
out...that they were not ready...they acted familiar, as if they had that intimacy Moses did, but they did not...

1 Chron 16:29-31 KJV
Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness . Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved.  Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice: and let men say among the nations, The LORD reigneth.
2 Chron 20:29 KJV  And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.
2 Chronicles 14:14 NKJV
Then they defeated all the cities around Gerar, for the fear of the LORD came upon them; and they plundered all the cities, for there was exceedingly much spoil in them.
2 Chronicles 17:10 NKJV
And the fear of the LORD fell on all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, so that they did not make war against Jehoshaphat.

Fear of the Lord here also seems like they feared for their lives because they saw the hand of the Lord God of Israel on His chosen people.  Whoever He told them to fight against were killed . But there is not dreadful fear in the hearts of those who KNOW HIM.

Job 4:12-15 KJV
Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof. In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men, Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake. Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:
Now here Job is experiencing the other spirit of fear in reaction to something he heard , secretly brought to him.in a vision of the night. We don't know if it was a good or evil presence....Now this seems to be the experience of a supernatural presence as when the spirit passed before his face hair on his arms stood up.  We fear what we have not experienced often and this was foreign to him.

Here is the antidote for fear:
Ps 27:3-6 KJV
Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.  One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.  And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.

Ps 22:23-25 KJV
For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard. My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him
Ps 27:1 KJV
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear ?  the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Ps 31:19 KJV
Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!

Ps 33:18-21 KJV
Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear Him, upon them that hope in His mercy; To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the LORD: He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name
Ps 34:7-10 KJV
The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.  O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.  The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

Read these outloud as you read this.it is prophesying over ourselves to do so.

Ps 46:1-5 KJV
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;  Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.  There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.  God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

Ps 56:4 KJV   In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
Ps 60:4-5 KJV
Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.  That thy beloved may be delivered; save with thy right hand, and hear me.
Ps 64:1-4  KJV  Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy.  Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:  Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:
That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
Ps 64:9-10 KJV
And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing. The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.

Ps 67:7 KJV   God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.
Ps 72:5 KJV   They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.
Ps 85:8-13 KJV
I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly. Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.  Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.  Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.  Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.  Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.
Ps 86:11-12 KJV
Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore.

There are so many scriptures on this is amazing .  Here is David saying come, I'll teach you the fear of the Lord.
Ps 34:11-22 KJV
11  Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12  What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?
13  Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
14  Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
15  The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.
16  The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
17  The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
18  The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
19  Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
20  He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.
21  Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.
22  The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

Ps 103:11-13 KJV
For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him

Ps 103:17-18 KJV
But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;  To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.

When you pray these, they are not to be recited presumptively but because of the blood of JESUS.  We don't recite them to get what we want from God in a manipulative way
but to speak into existence the truth of what HE SAYS out of relationship with Him.
New Agers speak things into existence they think they want like magic  This is not magic, though his love is amazing , we do it out of covenant relationship with the King of Kings...

Ps 115:11-14 KJV
Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield. The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron.  He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great. The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children.

Ps 118:4-7 KJV
Let them now that fear the LORD say, that his mercy endureth for ever.
I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place. The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? The LORD taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire  upon them that hate me.
Ps 119:38-39 KJV
Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.  Turn away my reproach which I fear: for thy judgments are good.

Below, David sure sounds like he is in something other than just an awesome fear  But he considers the punishment God would do if he does not obey. Our relationship with God is like that of Father with children indeed, but didn't we also fear offending our fathers and mothers as children?  We did not want to feel the wrath of their hand or belt on our backsides.  We know there is a law of sowing and reaping, and we do not want to reap the whirlwind as it says.

Ps 119:119-122 KJV
Thou puttest away all the wicked of the earth like dross: therefore I love thy testimonies.  My flesh trembleth for fear of thee; and I am afraid of thy judgments.  I have done judgment and justice: leave me not to mine oppressors.  Be surety for thy servant for good: let not the proud oppress me.

Here is some wisdom from Isaiah
Isa 41:13-15 KJV
For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.  Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.  Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.

Isa 41:10 KJV
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Isa 43:1-3 KJV
But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.  For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour:

This can seem contradictory if we don't understand the ways of God  Now he is saying fear but it is because sometimes we lose heart and our flesh is weak and we fear what we should not fear.  We don't understand how much God loves us, and all who fear His name.  If we are doing all we can to try to do according to His word, even if we are not fully healed and delivered,  He will uphold us through the hard times.  He will vindicate us.  He is a Mighty Warrior and the LOVER of our souls and He WILL UPHOLD US ! We can have confidence in that .  It is the hope of our salvation.and we must keep on that helmet and not take it off; not allow the enemy to say we are disqualified.

Isa 29:23-24 KJV
But when he seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel.   They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.

I believe this is a word for our times, in that God is releasing the apostolic teaching, and that the fear of the Lord will be restored to the house of the Lordand those who have erred will be confounded.  The wise in their own eyes will be dismayed and come to their senses when the Bridegroom enters the church.  They will see the fire of the love in His eyes for His own and He who is WISDOM will prevail.

Isaiah 33:6 NKJV
Wisdom and knowledge will be the stability of your times,  And the strength of salvation; The fear of the LORD is His treasure.

Isa 35:4-6 KJV
Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.
I love the imagery of Isaiah; streams in the desert is like cool refreshing waters that come ;The power of the love of the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit breaking down every wall of resistance in our hearts and peace like a river enters inpeace that goes beyond all understanding.

Isa 54:4-5 KJV
Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.  For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

Here is an indictment that keeps ringing in my head ,"their fear of Me is taught by the precept of men"  but then The Holy One gives a promise of restoration

Isa 29:13-19 KJV
Wherefore the Lord said, For asmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from ;me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid. Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say,  Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness. The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

Don't you know oh beloved of God, how much He loves you and does not willingly cause you to suffer? He is so enraptured with you !  He loves you so much!   He is now releasing judgement;  like when Miriam got jealous of Moses and instantly was stricken with leprosy.  He will not be silent when those who hate us come against us.  So be careful of your words.  They have the ability to bring life or death. Life and death are in the power of the tongue, so speak LIFE to all,  for He is not willing that any should perish,
but that all would come to the saving knowledge of Him.

Isa 59:16-19 KJV
And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him. For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke. According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies;  to the islands he will repay recompence. So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun.  When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

Remember this scripture?  When the enemy comes in like a flood, which he is in the process of doing.  THE SPIRIT WILL LIFT UP A STANDARD AGAINST HIM.  Hallelujah !  The gates of hell will NOT prevail against His church. Christ gave Himself for the church, will He let it fail ?  What it looks like will hopefully change to the better
to be more like Him.  How we meet will change, but it will not fail in it's mission, so be confident of what He has told you, and go forth in HIS POWER. !!!!

Isa 60:3-6  KJV      And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee. The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the LORD.

The abundance of the sea refers to the sea of peoples like in Revelation.  The harvest
is coming; the end-times harvest; the fullness of man predicted throughout the old testament and new. And HE promises all we need of money and resources will be
ours !!!!  Believe it son of man , that He will fulfill all prophecy !  This will come and
it is soon, so steady your heart; fix your eyes on HIM for the days draw near.

Isa 63:17 KJV
O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear ? Return for thy servants' sake, the tribes of thine inheritance.

This indicates He allows our hearts to be hardened from fear of Him so Isaiah cries out for Him to returncome and change us oh GOD he is saying.  Return and refresh us.this should be our hearts cry now !!!  WE  DESPERATELY NEED HIM TO COME WITH HIS LOVE.  PERFECT LOVE CASTS DOWN ALL FEAR ( the wrong kind of fear  ie fear of man, fear of demons, fear of loss, fear of death, fear of losing control,  etc)  We need HIM to fill us up with the fear of the Lord,  that we might endure and not succomb
to the spirit of this age.

Jer 2:19-20 KJV
Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in  thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts. For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.

Jer 5:22-24 KJV
Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it? But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.  Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former  and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest. Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good from you.

Jer 10:7 ASV
Who should not fear thee, O King of the nations? for to thee doth it appertain; forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their royal estate, there is none like unto thee.

Below sounds like the condition of the world today.  Babylon comes from Babel and meant confusion because that is where God confused the tongues of man after Noah's time when some rebelled from the word .  He told them to go forth and multiply to scatter across the face of the earth , and some disobeyed and wanted to build a tower thinking they could reach heaven.  God is trying to take all the Babylon out of us; we have rebellion so much in our hearts, even in the church.  We do not want to go for Him.  We want to dictate what we do for Him. Even so,  yet He loves us, but corrects us and leads us in the way of understanding. We are not to hold on to anything of this world.  We are Christians, bought and paid for with the precious blood of Jesus.  We are love slaves to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jer 51:43-46 ASV
Her cities are become a desolation, a dry land, and a desert, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby. And I will execute judgment upon Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up; and the nations shall not flow any more unto him: yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.  My people, go ye out of the midst of her, and save yourselves every man from the fierce anger of Jehovah.
Lam 3:47 KJV  Fear and a snare is come upon us, desolation and destruction

Here are promises in Jeremiah of restoration

Jer 32:38-41 ASV
and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: and I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from following them, to do them good; and I will put my fear in their hearts, that they may not depart from me. Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

Jer 33:9 ASV
And (this city) shall be to me for a name of joy, for a praise and for a glory, before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them, and shall fear and tremble for all the good and for all the peace that I procure unto it.

Ask for the Fear of the Lord  Part 2

Prov 3:7-8 KJV    Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.  It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
Prov 1:33   But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Here are some promises from God for those who fear Him.  They will have health. Your navel represents the center of your being.  Marrow to thy bones - marrow is one place where red cells are produced.the life of your blood. And it says that you will dwell in safety and be quiet from the fear of evil if you obey and fear HIM.  I know I want more of the fear of the Lord !

Isaiah 11:2-3 NKJV
The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.  His delight is in the fear of the LORD, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by the hearing of His ears;

Eccl 12:13-14 KJV
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.  For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

This indicates there is a portion of His 7 fold Spirit called the fear of the Lord, thus we can ask for the Spirit of the fear of the Lord in our lives, to fill our homes and churches. It says the Lord delights in the one who fears Him who obeys His words.  There are eternal rewards for us who do.

Isa 8:13-15  KJV
Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.  And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.  And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

If you are filled with the fear of the Lord you will be a stone of stumbling to others, a rock of offense.  You will also be untouched by the wickedness of the world,  for those who touch you, will be dealt with by the Living God ,Who is your sanctuary, your hope, your defense.

Isa 25:3-4 KJV
Therefore shall the strong people glorify thee, the city of the terrible nations shall fear thee.  For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.

This I found interesting.  So if you are strength to the poor and needy in their distress, and a refuge from the storms of life and a shadow from the heat when people are being oppressed, others will be fearing you.  You will be a threat to those who are lukewarm.  Strong people will glorify you and nations will fear you !  In other words God will be your rear guard and will deal with all.  He will make even your enemies to be at peace with you !

Ezek 3:9-11 KJV
As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead: fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.  Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears.  And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear.

God has told His prophets to not fear the faces of men, though they be rebellious.  If He gives you a word to speak to others, you must speak it; you must be obedient.  Do not fear what man can do to you Jesus said, but fear him who has the power to cast your soul into hell.

Dan 6:26-27 KJV
I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and steadfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.   He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

Dan 10:19 KJV
And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me

Hos 3:5 KJV
Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.  This is encouraginga promise of restoration for Israelfor the latter days.that is now

Amos 3:8 KJV  The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?

When the true voice of the Lord is heard, it is accompanied by the fear of the Lord. This was seen when Moses gathered the children of Israel and the Lord spoke great fear came upon them.

Jonah 1:9-10 KJV
And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.   Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.

Fleeing from the presence of the Lord is definitely not a good place to be ; been there, done that, as they say.  Being  on your own, doing your own thing, instead of what GOD wants you to do is always a bad idea.  He will often let us go our own way till we fall on our face, or till we do what we want, then realize that it was not fulfilling and the best for us.

Mic 7:17-19 KJV
They shall lick the dust like a serpent, they shall move out of their holes like worms of the earth: they shall be afraid of the LORD our God, and shall fear because of thee.  Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage?  he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us;

In Lamentations 3:33,   God declares that He does not willingly afflict or grieve the sons of men. His heart is one of compassion and mercy.  Mercy triumphs over judgment.  His judgment is His love greatly provoked.  Here in Micah he says they shall be afraid because of us.!!!  We have not fully comprehended the heart of God for His own if we don't understand this. A good parent does not ignore his child when he sees him heading for self destruction.    When my son was only 10 months old, he crossed, by himself, a busy street near Wheaton College when a soccer game was going on.   I guess he saw the people across the street and followed.  Perhaps he thought I'd gone there, but I'd gone in the house and my sister and mom were supposed to be watching him.  I came out and panicked when I didn't see him in the yard,  then saw him on the other side of the street !!!!  Imagine, that God sees you slipping into complacency or apathy, into indifference that is a dangerous place to be.  So what might He do ?  What would a good parent do if they knew their kid was doing drugs at 11 yrs old ?  They would do everything they could to draw him back to right behavior and to know they love him.  We have lost our fear of the Lord in so many churches.  God is drawing us back to make HIM our FIRST LOVE.  Sometimes the only way to do that is to shock us

Mal 4:2-3 KJV  But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.  And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts

Here is a wonderful promise of healing in Malachi, not only healing, but prosperity of soul, and a promise of treading down the wicked if we are among those who fear the Lord.  WE are living in the days this will be fulfilled.

Matt 10:26-29 KJV
Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.  What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye  upon the housetops. And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Luke 7:14-16 KJV
And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say  unto thee, Arise.  And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people

Luke 8:37-38 KJV
Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again. Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away,

Acts 2:43 KJV    And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

Acts 5:3-5 KJV
But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?  Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart?   thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

Acts 5:10-11 KJV
Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.  And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

In all instances of the new testament scriptures here, fear of the Lord returned with great displays of His power.  This testifies that UNBELIEF is the companion of a lack of fear of the Lord.  Just as the children of Israel were unbelieving when Moses did not come down when they thought he should.  The desires of their flesh along with the enemy taunted them into creating God in their own fashion.  We are no different today than they were.  In many places of worship who proclaim Jesus as Lord, there is unbelief, lack of proper fear of the Lord, and disobedience to dependence on HIM.  He said, unless you become as a little child, you will not inherit the kingdom of God.  Many say things like " God can't do that "  or " God doesn't do that anymore", or "God wouldn't do that anymore"  presuming to know what God might want.  That is unbelief  !!!!   Also  the  Lord  told  me  once  that DISCONTENTMENT  is the mother of presumption.  Timothy warned of these times when the church would have a resemblance of looking like believers, but with no power thereof.

Isa 64:1-7 NKJV
Oh, that You would rend the heavens ! That You would come down ! That the mountains might shake at Your presence2 As fire burns brushwood ,As fire causes water to boil--To make Your name known to Your adversaries, That the nations may tremble at Your presence! 3 When You did awesome things for which we did not look, You came down, The mountains shook at Your presence. 4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, nor has the eye seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who waits for Him. 5 You meet him who rejoices and does righteousness, who remembers You in Your ways. You are indeed angry, for we have sinned--In these ways we continue; And we need to be saved.
6  But we are all like an unclean thing and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. 7  And there is no one who calls on Your name, Who stirs himself up to take hold of You; For You have hidden Your face from us, and have consumed us because of our iniquities.

Father, in the name of Jesus, we ask You to restore in us, our homes, our churches and our nation,  the Spirit of the fear of the Lord.  We ask for You to rend the heavens and come down Lord, change the face of Your church.  Deliver us oh Lord !  Pour out Your mighty LOVE in our hearts that we would love, as You love.  Bring a mighty awakening to our nation and to the world, that every knee would bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord !  Forgive our petty jealousies Father, our sibling rivalry, and our self-centeredness and greed, and help us to live as You lived, to walk as You walked, to give as You gave, to speak as Your spoke.   We will not be satisfied oh Lord till we awake in YOUR IMAGE !   Have mercy oh Lord on us.  Forgive and deliver us from our unbelief, our discontentment and pride.   Give us a humble heart oh Lord. Forgive us and come down OH LORD !  Make Yourself known to the nations.  Give us the grace to stir ourselves up to take hold of YOU !
