Throw the Witch Out the Window
by Daniel Durfee
Born and raised in Seattle, I have lived here all my life except for one year in Phoenix, AZ. Until the last few years I had not traveled much out of the area. About three years ago I started traveling for business purposes and have now visited several large metropolitan areas across the country. Once I started traveling, it was with some surprise
that I began to notice how these places were not like Seattle.
I don’t mean just physically different, but in the feel of the places. Most interesting of all was that I felt somewhat different in each place. I started sensing the unique spiritual qualities of each city I visited. I came to understand that the spiritual atmosphere of each place accounted for why I felt differently there. During these times I came to recognize how a given locality has its own natural and spiritual dynamics. Each time I returned home I sensed a little more of what Seattle is like. Having always lived in Seattle I guess I was a like the frog in the pot of slowly heated water. I really couldn’t tell what my own city was like or where it was going until I was able to leave it for a while. It was too familiar to me and maybe I was too much a part of it. But the Holy Spirit has ways of making clear what He wants you to know.
After many trips out and back I began to get a clearer feeling for the spiritual sense of Seattle. This was a slowly building revelation. At some point I started to wonder why I didn’t feel the heaviness and oppressive closeness of the spiritual air in other places like I did at home. This troubled me and I began to research the city’s history. I won’t go into those findings here but suffice it to say there are ample reasons for heaviness and oppression here. I am not going to try to tie the city’s history together with what I am writing here. It would take historians and research scholars to do that. I will attempt to give you the revelation I received and tell how it relates to both individuals
and geographic localities, not the least of which is Seattle.
This revelation is a work in progress and I expect to continue receiving understanding about it. Therefore this document will almost certainly need revision soon. I feel prompted to write out what I know at this point because I think it will be of benefit to others who may be facing similar circumstances.
Throw the witch out the window
In early February of 2004 I was at my home and feeling particularly gray and thick. If you live in Seattle you probably know what that means. For the benefit of those who live in other places I’ll explain. Gray and thick is kind of like the low ceiling weather we have here
most of the time. Vague angst and heaviness. Oppressive spiritual atmosphere, but not quite enough to make you do something about it. Just the slightest tinge of depression and feelings of futility, never crossing the line to where you realize what it is. I see it as a
sentient blanket of spiritual haze that lets just enough light through so that the blanket goes unnoticed.
Most people here evidently feel that caffeine will solve this problem. Really it just adds irritableness to an already dark mood. So, I was standing in the hallway of my house when a much needed ray of light came into my mind. I felt something was wrong about this heaviness and that I needed to cry out to God about it. So I prayed in a rather loud and irritated way, “Lord, why can’t this garbage leave? How can this ever go away?”
Suddenly I knew something that we (or at least I) normally don’t notice here: there is something in the air and it is expert at hiding from me. The Holy Spirit then spoke to me clearly, “Throw the witch out the window.” In that moment it became unhidden for me. It was like a veil was removed.
Windows
The Prophet’s Dictionary by Dr. Paula A. Price has some good insights about spiritual windows. From entry #1616 Dr. Price states: “Window -(a) A sign of upward mobility, an ascending call. (b) An opening or exit as a source of entrance or access.
(c) Signifies opportunity for transition or improvement. As ordinarily ascent symbols, windows require ascension and climbing to enter and go through.”
And from entry #1617: “Windows (spiritual) – Windows reflect sky portals, exit and
entrance. Being usually above ground, they are different from doors that represent passageways for crossing over, and lateral movements. They reflect transition or advancement on the earthly plane. Windows signify upward movement, upward mobility and elevation stature and are for the elements what doors are for people. Ascension is the
connotation of window symbolism in prophetic contexts as related to Scripture.”
In Scripture we see that God sends both judgments and blessings through windows. The first mention of “the windows of Heaven” is in Gen. 7:11 where the windows of Heaven open up to rain on the earth and destroy it. Two selections from commentaries on the Genesis passage follow:
“The windows of heaven were opened, ['ªrubot (OT:699)]. This Hebrew term denotes windows or apertures closed with lattice, not with glass (cf. Gen 6:16 with Eccl 12:3; Isa 60:8), and hence, they are represented as "opened;" so that the waters from the clouds, instead of oozing slowly and gently, as through a piece of compact network, were
poured down, as through sluices or spouts [Septuagint, Katarraktai]; (cf. 2 Kings 7:2,19; Isa 24:18; Mal 3:10). The language is highly figurative, intended to convey vivid idea of the awful inundation, proceeding at the same time from two opposite sources, atmospheric and subterranean receptacles; the one expression indicating a copious and continued descent of rain, and the other betokening either an upheaval of the beds of rivers and the sea, or the subsidence beneath the level of the ocean of that portion of the earth which was the actual habitation of man.”

“The windows of heaven were opened, and the waters which were above the firmament were poured out upon the world; those treasures which God has reserved against the time of trouble, the day of battle and war, Job 38:22,33. The rain, which ordinarily descends in drops, then came down in streams, or spouts, as they call them in the Indies, where clouds
have been often known to burst, as they express it there, when the rain descends in a much more violent torrent than we have ever seen in the greatest shower. We read (Job 26:8) that God binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not rent under them; but now the bond was loosed, the cloud was rent, and such rains descended as were never known before nor since, in such abundance and of such continuance: the thick cloud was not, as ordinarily it is, wearied with waterings (Job 37:11), that is, soon spent and exhausted; but still the clouds returned after the rain, and the divine power brought in fresh recruits. It rained, without intermission or abatement, forty days and forty nights (v. 12), and that upon the whole earth at once, not, as sometimes, upon one city and not upon another. God made the world in six days, but he was forty days in destroying it; for he is slow to anger: but, though the destruction came slowly and gradually, yet it
came effectually.” (from Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible: New Modern

And now here is a Scripture example of the blessings of God pouring out
through the windows of Heaven and one commentary selection on it.
Mal 3:10-12 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this," Says the LORD of hosts, "If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. 11 "And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, so that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,"
Says the LORD of hosts; 12 And all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land," Says the LORD of hosts. NKJV
“That, whereas the heavens have been shut up, and there has been no rain, now God will open to you the windows of heaven, for in his hand the key of the clouds is, and you shall have seasonable rain. Or the expression is figurative; every good gift coming from above, thence God will plentifully pour out upon them the bounties of his providence.
Very sudden plenty is expressed by opening the windows of heaven, 2 Kings 7:2. We find the windows of heaven opened, to pour down a deluge of wrath, in Noah's flood, Gen 7:11. But here they are opened to pour down blessings, to such a degree that there should not be room enough to receive them. So plentifully shall their ground bring forth that they shall be tempted to pull down their barns and build greater, for want of room, Luke 12:18. Or, as Dr. Pocock explains it, "I will pour out on you such a blessing as shall be not enough only, and such as shall be sufficient, but more and more than enough;" that is, a great
addition. The oil that is multiplied shall not be stayed as long as there are vessels to receive it, 2 Kings 4:6.
Note, God will not only be reconciled to sinners that repent and reform, but he will be a benefactor, a bountiful benefactor, to them. We are never straitened in him, but often straitened in our own bosoms. God has blessings ready to bestow upon us, but, through the weakness of our faith and narrowness of our desires, we have not room to receive them.”
(from Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible: New Modern
Edition, Electronic Database. Copyright (c) 1991 by Hendrickson Publishers, Inc.)
Here is some more from entry #1617 in The Prophet’s Dictionary.
“Ordinarily, a window is to let something high descend or what is lowly to arise… The Bible depicts windows as a means of pouring out blessings from heaven or divine judgments. Windows may be seen as the opening that permits the earthly to receive or appear before the heavenly. John’s Apocalypse speaks of the window in heaven where the Lord showed
him the ark of God after which the earthly Levitical ark was made and numerous other details of the spirit realm that he would have otherwise been unable to know.”
The same Hebrew word is used for “windows” in both Gen. 7:11 and Mal. 3:10 (Strong’s OT:699). The literal rendering of this word is “a place to lurk.” The primitive root word from which it derives is “to lurk” (Strong’s OT:693).
The King James Version translates this root word as“to lie in ambush” or “to lie in wait.” Webster defines lurk as “to lie in wait as in ambush, move furtively, to exist unobserved or
unsuspected.” This sounds interestingly similar to what I felt: That there is something in the air and it is expert at hiding from us.
So we see that God uses the windows of Heaven as tremendously voluminous sluice gates where He pours forth both His blessings and judgments into the natural world. I believe He is beginning to use these windows as places where He will pour out the lost and stolen
treasures of His people, things that have been held captive in the enemy’s storehouse. He will pour out as yet unheard of gifts and treasures from His own storehouse, and unimaginable blessings upon His people during this season of Restoration that is upon us. He has reserved items in His treasuries specifically to be handed out in times of trouble, war and battle (Job 38:22-23). He also uses these windows as avenues of ingress and egress for His people concerning the revelatory realm of Heaven. Through the windows of Heaven, when they are open and unobstructed, come unthinkably copious amounts of things,
when God decides to pour through them. As God’s children we have access to ascend into the revelatory realm of heaven through windows.
It is a given, then, that satan would attempt to position his host to stop up these windows so as to block both the way of ascent and the free distribution of the both the blessings and judgments of God. And we see that the enemy does indeed attempt to do this by placing a lurking power that waits in ambush in the windows of Heaven. This is what came
to me that day in my hallway, as the answer to my irritated prayer. We must throw the lurking witch out the window, not only above our own heads but also above our churches and cities. Then we will see poured out upon us what neither eye has seen, ear has heard nor mind has conceived.
The anointing : When the Holy Spirit said “throw the witch out the window” He also let
me know the portions of Scripture that went with this living word, 1 Kings 21 and 2 Kings 9. There are two prophecies given concerning the demise of Jezebel. In 1 Kings 21 Elijah foretells her violent death. And in 2 Kings 9 a son of one of the prophets with Elisha has
essentially the same prophetic word that Elijah had. The exception the second time was that the son of the prophet was also sent to anoint as King the person who would carry out Jezebel’s sentence.
2 Kings 9:1-10
And Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said
to him,” Get yourself ready, take this flask of oil in your hand, and
go to Ramoth Gilead. 2 Now when you arrive at that place, look there
for Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, and go in and make
him rise up from among his associates, and take him to an inner room. 3
Then take the flask of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, 'Thus
says the LORD: "I have anointed you king over Israel."' Then open the
door and flee, and do not delay." 4 So the young man, the servant of
the prophet, went to Ramoth Gilead. 5 And when he arrived, there were
the captains of the army sitting; and he said, "I have a message for
you, Commander. "Jehu said, "For which one of us?" And he said, "For
you, Commander." 6 Then he arose and went into the house. And he poured
the oil on his head, and said to him,” Thus says the LORD God of
Israel: 'I have anointed you king over the people of the LORD, over
Israel. 7 You shall strike down the house of Ahab your master, that I
may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of all
the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel. 8 For the whole house
of Ahab shall perish; and I will cut off from Ahab all the males in
Israel, both bond and free. 9 So I will make the house of Ahab like the
house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the
son of Ahijah. 10 The dogs shall eat Jezebel on the plot of ground at
Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her.'" And he opened the door
and fled. NKJV
Inherent in the anointing that came upon Jehu to be King was the enablement for him to carry out the fulfillment of the prophecy of Jezebel’s destruction. Amazingly, this anointing to destroy Jezebel is not limited to those with a kingly calling but can be transferred to other persons of a particular character. We will see that the character
attributes of those who may partake of this anointing are clearly stated, and they are attainable by anyone willing to pay the price.
Where are the windows?
This is an interesting question and one that doesn’t seem to have a truly adequate answer. This may be a mystery that cannot be fully understood in this life. Jacob saw a ladder and declared that the gate of Heaven was in a particular place (Gen. 28:11-17). Jesus told
Nicodemus that He was in Heaven while He stood on the earth (John 3:13). Jacob’s account might lead us to believe that the windows of Heaven are geographical in nature. Jesus’ account might make us think that certain people have an unusually persistent open heaven over them. History fairly well confirms both of these ideas. We must keep to a
Scriptural interpretation and view of these things. It would not be good to be dogmatic or to go off in much revelation without the plumbline of the Word to test it. Neither would it be good to chase demons trying to find out “where the witch in the window is.” In pondering these things I felt drawn to a closer examination of the text.
2 Kings 9:21-31 Then Joram said, "Make ready." And his chariot was made ready. Then
Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his
chariot; and they went out to meet Jehu, and met him on the property of
Naboth the Jezreelite. 22 Now it happened, when Joram saw Jehu, that he
said, "Is it peace, Jehu?"
So he answered, "What peace, as long as the harlotries of your mother
Jezebel and her witchcraft are so many?"
23 Then Joram turned around and fled, and said to Ahaziah, "Treachery,
Ahaziah!" 24 Now Jehu drew his bow with full strength and shot Jehoram
between his arms; and the arrow came out at his heart, and he sank down
in his chariot. 25 Then Jehu said to Bidkar his captain, "Pick him up,
and throw him into the tract of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for
remember, when you and I were riding together behind Ahab his father,
that the LORD laid this burden upon him: 26'Surely I saw yesterday the
blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons,' says the LORD,’ and I will
repay you in this plot,' says the LORD. Now therefore, take and throw
him on the plot of ground, according to the word of the LORD."
27 But when Ahaziah king of Judah saw this, he fled by the road to Beth
Haggan. So Jehu pursued him, and said, "Shoot him also in the chariot."
And they shot him at the Ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. Then he
fled to Megiddo, and died there. 28 And his servants carried him in the
chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his tomb with his fathers in
the City of David. 29 In the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab,
Ahaziah had become king over Judah.
30 Now when Jehu had come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she put
paint on her eyes and adorned her head, and looked through a window. 31
Then, as Jehu entered at the gate, she said,” Is it peace, Zimri,
murderer of your master?"
NKJV
In order to understand how verse 27 verse 30 tell us where the windows are we need to know something of how the Jezebel spirit operates. This is a vast subject and many good books have treated it at length. I will stick to the operations that the Holy Spirit seemed to point out to me as the most relevant to the subject at hand.
Once again, while pondering these things the Holy Spirit gave further insight. I heard Him say, “Wherever you see a witch with a painted face, there is a window.” This is the agent sent from the kingdom of darkness to block the windows of Heaven. There may be more to this than what is contained in this revelation. No doubt there is. But there is
at least this one power sent to lurk in ambush in a true window: Jezebel. So what does this mean in a practical way? If you look at your city and see an area that has an abundance of both sexual sin /perversion and occult, witchcraft, goddess worship, etc., then this is
most likely a place where a window of Heaven exists, but has been occupied by Jezebel. The painted face speaks of the seduction into sexual sin. Seduction is the thing that masks the true aim of Jezebel. She wants to lead us into false worship. She stands in the legitimate window and looks out, masking her true goal of sorcery and idol worship
with the painted face of temptation. If we let ourselves or our regions be drawn away by our own lusts to this painted face then the yoke of witchcraft is soon to follow. Take a look at this text from the New Testament:
Rev 2:20-21 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that
woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My
servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.NKJV
Here again we see both witchcraft and divination in operation with sexual immorality. These are both present when Jezebel occupies a window.
Who can throw her down?
After I knew what throw the witch out the window meant I actually felt let down. I didn’t think that I was one who would be able to do it. After all, Jehu was a king anointed by a prophet of Israel. So I went back to the text again. Even though I had read this many times I really didn’t see what was going on in the story. Jehu did not remove Jezebel
from the window. The eunuchs did it. In an amazing account of transference of anointing, we see exactly how the anointing is imparted and to whom. Jehu called up to the window and asked if anyone was on his side (2 Kings 9:32). To be on the side of the king is one of those inexhaustibly deep concepts contained in just a short phrase. Contained in this is the pronouncement of the apostle Paul that we cannot drink both the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons (1 Cor. 10:21). If we are with the king then we have forsaken all others. I still didn’t get it though. If I have to get this grace from a king then how is that supposed to happen? Who is the king? I was still thinking in natural terms at this point, looking for a man to give me an impartation.
Finally, I asked the Lord, “Who is the king?” Immediately upon asking that question I sensed the eyes of the Lord upon me, as if He was looking down on a naïve son who had just asked a very silly question. He was just looking at me and waiting for me to come to my senses. Of course I now knew Who the King was. In the story the eunuchs responded
to the sound of Jehu’s voice. This is what opened the way for them to receive the anointing. When Jehu commanded them to throw her down, they received the impartation of power to do the job. The entire transference of the anointing to throw Jezebel out of the window comes from hearing the voice of the King and obeying it. Jesus is the King
whose voice exudes this impartation. All you have to do to position yourself to receive, is to hear His voice and be a eunuch.
Eunuchs
I believe the Holy Spirit is highlighting the spiritual aspects of being a eunuch in this teaching. The context in the New Testament seems to be speaking of remaining unmarried (Matt 19:1-12). However, the Bible is a spiritual book as well as practical and historical.
Remaining unmarried while you are married (if you are) is an interesting idea. I see this as having nothing before the Lord, even your spouse. He is our Bridegroom. I believe this is the simple spiritual meaning of Matt. 19:11-12. Each of us can be a eunuch for the
kingdom of heaven. Jesus Himself stated that not everyone can accept this saying. Here is a commentary excerpt on Matt. 19:12:
“[Eunuchs] Eunouchos, from euneen echein, to have the care of the bed
or bedchamber; this being the principal employment of eunuchs in the
eastern countries, particularly in the apartments of queens and
princesses.”
(from Adam Clarke's Commentary, Electronic Database. Copyright (c) 1996
by Biblesoft)
Now this is even more amazing. Those who were deemed worthy to receive this anointing were the very ones who were the attendants of Jezebel’s bed. These were her eunuchs who looked out of the window where she was standing. They were the attendants of her bedchamber. What do you think that means in our world today? If you think that anything you have done disqualifies you from either hearing the voice of the King in this
matter or from being able to receive this grace, think again.
If these ones could be on the side of the king and already be positioned to receive the power to throw her down, then we also have the capacity to qualify. Herein lies the enumeration of the cost:
(1) To be able to stand in the bedchamber of Jezebel and not succumb to her temptation.
(2) To be able to hear the voice of the King from that vantage point and to respond.
These ones were employed by Jezebel, as some of us have been, to work in her very bedchamber. The blood of Jesus and the grace of the Holy Spirit can overcome even these most gruesome of apparent obstacles.
Those who were once attendants in Jezebel’s bedchamber are the very ones who are offered the power of His anointing to throw her down from her blocking position in the window of ascension. These must come to the point of utter renunciation of their former employment by her in order to receive this unction. There can be no more active avenues for the filthiness of the flesh or for sorcery or the anointing will be compromised.
Open Heavens
This term gets used often these days. I believe there is a danger in
overuse of any term in that we can become desensitized to it and forget
its meaning. However I think it applies here. The windows of Heaven are
just that – an opening through which the blessings and judgments from
Heaven flow in like a flood to the natural realm. We also ascend into
the revelatory realm through these open heaven windows. These windows
have been shown to be both over persons and over geographic localities.
They can and do get blocked by at least the Jezebel spirit. We have
seen how to recognize this type of blockage and how to position
ourselves to receive the anointing of power to throw the witch out the
window. Once we identify a place, such as Seattle, where there is
definitely a huge entrenchment of both sexual perversion and occult, we
must ask what it is that is appointed by God to be flowing through the
windows in that area. If the entrenchment is large and strong, as it is
here, it leads one to wonder what it is that the kingdom of darkness so
fears that it must throw so many resources into blocking.
This article is not really intended to go into this area but once the witch is
identified we must continue on to total removal. I want to emphasize
here that in no way should any of the above antagonistic or warfare
language be construed as pertaining to people. This is spiritual
warfare with dark heavenly powers. We never focus on removing people
who may be engaged in some of these activities – they were created in
the image of God and Christ died for them. I don’t know about you but I
have no room to point a finger at anyone over anything. As with most
things this will begin on an individual level, meaning in our own
hearts, not someone else’s. Then we may move on in a corporate way to
doing regional battle in the spiritual realm. The people who are bound
by these things will be able to be set free if we focus on fighting the
spiritual battle, because the good things God intends for them will no
longer be blocked. The good news is that the Holy Spirit is revealing
this now. That means the grace is available to actually do it.
Northwest Passage
Since a window has been identified in Seattle, and in some other areas
in the Northwest, this section goes into some of the research and
revelation around dealing with removing the blocking forces.
On June 20, 1803 President Thomas Jefferson commissioned Captain
Meriwether Lewis to look for a river that would supply “…the most
direct and practicable water communication across this continent for
the purpose of commerce.” In short, the Northwest Passage. All other
exploration aimed at finding this passage had focused on a water route
from the North Atlantic through Canadian waters to the Pacific Ocean.
For some reason I was drawn to studying about the Lewis and Clark
expedition and I didn’t know why. After spending many days reading
about this fascinating journey the Holy Spirit spoke again,
“There is still a Northwest Passage yet to be discovered.” I knew this
meant a spiritual passage, a geographically oriented window of Heaven in the
Pacific Northwest. This has made me ponder the number of places where
geographic windows may exist in the Northwest. Lewis and Clark ended up
in the Oregon Territory. They did not plan to because they were just
looking for the passage, but here is where they came. This has
spiritual significance for us today. There is a spiritual northwest
passage in the Oregon Territory yet to be discovered and certainly a
large portion of it is right here in Seattle. It is in fact not really
undiscovered, just undiscovered by God’s people. The enemy knows about
it and has been working hard to keep it blocked and unknown by us.
In February of 1805 a Shoshone woman named Sacagawea who had joined the expedition with her husband, Toussaint Charbonneau, gave birth to a baby boy. She named him Jean Baptiste. The significance of this for us today is remarkable. The one named Jean Baptiste is a sign to us. He represents the spirit of John the Baptist as the one who prepares the
way of the Lord in the Northwest. This new life that was born on the journey was a mixture of both indigenous and immigrant. This tells us that the as yet undiscovered spiritual northwest passage will be found and opened by the spirit of John the Baptist residing in a combined corporate man consisting of both indigenous people (Native Indians) and immigrants (everyone else). It will not be done in any other way or by any other grouping of peoples. The Holy Spirit will do this. We do not need to run around trying to make something happen. There will of course be certain ones whose calling and gifting it is to make connections and relationships between these groups.
But whether any of them know about this revelation does not matter. For those reading this and who believe it, our responsibility is to pray this in. God wants to open the windows of Heaven in the Pacific Northwest and He is looking for those who will stand with Him in the gap and throw the witch out the window.
